Bishop's Committee on Clergy Sexual Ethics

The Bishop's Committee on Sexual Ethics envisions making all churches safe sanctuaries for the proclaiming and living out of God's gracious, redeeming love for all humankind.  Further, we seek to make this sanctuary a place of healing.  Sadly, we know that sexual abuse is present in the world and therefore is sometimes present in the Church.  The Bishop's Committee on Sexual Ethics was created for the purpose of preventing the tragic occurrence of clergy sexual misconduct and of promoting healing if it has occurred.

The Bishop's Committee on Sexual Ethics is accountable to the Bishop of the North Texas Conference.

The work of the Bishop's Committee on Sexual Ethics is organized in three areas of focus:

  • Our Educational Work -- Seeking to prevent unwanted sexual advances by educating clergy and laity on the conference policies on misconduct and harassment.
  • Our Advocacy Work -- Recruiting, training and equipping Resource Persons; the first line of help for aggrieved persons.
  • Our Healing Work -- Sending a response team to help acongregation heal after a pastor has been removed.

The education and advocacy work of the committee are done by a variety of people under Alice Zaccarello's guidance.

The healing work is coordinated by Carole Carsey
